On January 29th, the Alien Workshop Flagship Store hosted the official VIP pre-screening party, for the World premiere of Alien’s new film “Mind Field”. This was an incredible milestone for the Alien brand, as it is only the 4th full-length film ever created by Alien. Mind Field was filmed and built over the span of the last 5 years, and is in essence a documentary of the team’s raw ability and eclectic personalities. It features the insane skating of Alien’s 13 team skaters and each of the parts is just as creative and progressive as the next. Further, the film (created by filmer Greg Hunt) really showcases Alien’s incredible visual creativity with amazing artistic layouts, vignettes and treatments, all backed by a kick-ass soundtrack.
The night was definitely special, starting off with the official Pre-screening party right in our LA store. More than 200 guests attended the event including Store customers, Skate Media (Transworld, Thrasher, Slap, etc.), Skate Industry representatives and a great turnout from our own family of brands (Analog, Gravis, Burton). And of course special mention goes to the insane turnout of the Alien (and Habitat) pro skaters, including: Anthony Van Engelen, Mikey Taylor, Omar Salazar, Dylan Rieder, Jason Dill, Rob Dyrdek, Arto Saari, Jake Johnson, Tyler Bledsoe and Stefan Janoski (hope I didn’t miss anyone). And of course Alien’s fearless leader Chris Carter was in full effect as co-host of the evening’s events, along with Mike Hill and filmer Greg Hunt. And the whole crew was amped by the attendance of Jake Burton, who flew in from Vegas (with Greg D. in tow) for the premiere.
The party was held on the roof of the store, where guests were treated to an open ramp, cold beer and refreshments, and finally an awesome hotdog stand, courtesy of the iconic company “Pinks”. Music was provided by our own DJ Chris Cuts, who kept the mood right on track with a killer set; and the insane artwork was done by Paul Rossi, who created the Alien chalk art as the base for our party. It was a perfect LA night, with skating, music, food and more. Guests were able to hang out and catch up, and see their favorite pro skaters in the mix, all part of the hype before heading over to UCLA’s Royce Hall (an amazing space) for the actual screening of the movie. More than 1,000 guests attended the movie, and the reaction was awesome. The entire Alien crew should be incredibly proud of this project and it was definitely their night to shine…congratulations Alien!!
