Burton’s Red, White and Brews Party Blowout

1,320 cans of PBR, 10 cases of Americana Vodka, hula hoops, corn hole, balloons and a swing set were all on hand at last night’s Americana-themed Burton party in SoHo. Hundreds of guests celebrated Burton’s annual NYC showroom, which debuted the 2010 product line for top journalists. Media from Sports Illustrated, Allure, O Magazine, The Fader, XXL, NY Times, Vanity Fair, Vice Magazine, Seventeen and Spin, in addition to musicians, designers, artists, DJs and even Jake Burton himself were all there to enjoy some good old fashioned American fun.

Burton’s 10,000 sq ft SoHo showroom loft, bathed in red light and filled with red, white and blue helium balloons, showcased key products from Burton’s 2010 outerwear, boot and binding lines. Mannequins displaying next season’s outerwear were repeatedly molested throughout the night in the name of comical photo ops. Corn hole, a Midwest version of horseshoes that uses beanbags, tested the talents of partygoers, while others competed against one another to hold aloft a hula hoop longer. A random swing set in a dimly lit corner provided seating and whimsy.

The booze was flowing and the beats, courtesy of DJ Brooklyn Dawn, motivated the crowd to get moving and throw down impromptu dance-offs. In keeping with the theme, the food from Mary Giuliani Catering was American-inspired and featured eats like mini burgers, fried chicken, ribs and apple pie. AMP energy kept the crowd awake and partying into the wee hours until the well ran dry and the music died down.

If you weren’t there, you missed out. But don’t worry, there’s always next year…

Roll Out: Friends of Burton Relay Message to Cohort, “Buy Burton!”

We can only imagine the conversations artists have with their cohorts after copping a few pieces of luggage, or any other Burton-related products for that matter. For the sake of simplicity, we assume they’d simply ask, “Jealous much?!” to any friends frothing at the mouth for new gear. We know now that they sprint to their closest Burton store and make it a point to purchase something from the latest season.

For the past few years we’ve made sure that Burton enthusiasts who also happen to be musicians, artists, DJs, producers, directors and actors stay up to speed on what’s in the current line, making sure that they’re updating their snowboarding gear and carrying our luggage on tour.

We just heard from the LA Flagship store that those friends are telling their friends to purchase Burton luggage, apparel and gear for their summer tours too. Top tier talented people who travel all over the globe are backing our products and we couldn’t be more stoked.

Here’s a quick download of some of the latest visitors to the LA store who made purchases courtesy of Assistant Manager, Travis Schenck:

- Sean Sturge (sound engineer for EMINEM and N.E.R.D.)
- Kurtis Battle (Tour Manager for Kanye West and EMINEM) * They stop in whenever they are in LA and usually pick up bags for themselves or for who they are working with. I was backstage at the Eminem/Jay Z show this week and it looked like a Burton Luggage store back there!
- Tony Moore- Stage manager for Lil Wayne
- Gary McLain- Stage manager for Disturbed, Godsmack, Guns and Roses
- Pablo Stennett- Guitarist for Ziggy Marley
- Shaggy- R&B and Reggae Singer
- Aerialist on tour with Brittney Spears
- 3 of Britney Spear’s dancers
- 2 of Rihanna's Dancers

* Check out the attached photo from Rihanna’s backup crew—that’s the keyboardist, drummer, bass player and back-up dancer from their international tour with Burton luggage in tow.
